Climate Change and Social Order – Evolution or Revolution?

The event’s topic, focusing on climate change, addresses the most pressing challenge of today and the foreseeable future. Not only has society to work hard for the mitigation of climate change, we also have to create awareness about climate change’s impact on society.

Today’s and tomorrow’s thinkers have to work together to find appropriate responses to the consequences of a changing climate – natural disasters, changing livelihood prospects, migration, political instability and the necessity of global acting are among the issues that will consume us significantly in the future.

Thus, the topic to be discussed ‘Climate Change and Social Order: Evolution or Revolution?’ is utmost relevant today.

Some of the most honored personalities of today

Challenge the Best is proud to welcome a diversity of intellects to St. Gallen: the President of the Millennium Institute Dr. Hans R. Herren, Swiss entrepreneur Ulrich Bremi, Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry Professor Doctor Richard Ernst, leading authority on climate Sir Brian Hoskins and Nobel Prize winner in Economics Professor Eric Maskin. Read more here.

More than others we stress the importance of reciprocal challenge through debate; we believe that the students’ fresh and intuitive way of thinking combined with the wisdom and experience of Nobel Laureates and our distinguished guests will reveal enormous potential.

An inspiring atmosphere...

On the 17th of May our honourable guests will give a brief introductions to the topic of the event. Afterwards, the students will be divided into small groups consisting of around 10 students each and one distinguished guest. The workshops will encourage the exchange of knowledge and views between our guests and the students.

The students will be well prepared through a two day intensive seminar and each workshop will be carried out by a skilled moderator. A concluding panel debate among our guest - based on input from the workshops - will close the event.
